Update for Report Card Comments 2024-25

Teachers use comments to give you a better understanding of your child’s strengths and areas where they can continue to grow. What to Expect Teachers will use a consistent report card comment format this year to ensure clarity for all students across our system. Each comment includes:

• Areas of Strength: Skills or concepts that your child is excelling at.

• Areas for Growth: Identifies skills or concepts to focus on and provides specific next steps for continued learning.

How Report Card Comments Are Created

Report card comments are based on evidence collected through assessments at the end of learning cycles. These comments reflect your child’s progress in meeting the learning goals for their courses.

Comments on your child’s report card are designed to give you meaningful insights into your child’s learning journey.

Kindergarten Registration

CBE kindergarten registration opens January 13th, 2025 and runs through Feb 11, 2025. Killarney typically requires a lottery as more students register than there are spaces. This is NOT a first come first serve situation. There is no need to register on the first day. Students entering Kindergarten September 2025 fall MUST turn 5 years old by December 31, 2025. For information regarding registration and the lottery process, please visit

https://www.cbe.ab.ca/registration/registration/Pages/next-school-year.aspx

2025-2026 Intention Form

You should have received a pink form home before the break asking you to indicate your intentions for your child’s attendance next year. Please return the form ASAP whether you are planning to stay at Killarney or if you are thinking about leaving. This is only necessary for Kindergarten through grade 5 students. This information helps us as we move into planning for next year.

Dogs on the Field

We want to remind you that dogs are not allowed on the school field at any time. This City of Calgary Bylaw helps ensure the safety and comfort of all our students, families, and staff. If you are bringing a dog with you, please remain off the school grounds completely. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in keeping our school environment safe and welcoming for everyone.

Family Literacy Week

Families across Calgary are invited to join the Calgary Board of Education in celebrating Family Literacy Week from Jan. 26 to Feb. 2, with a focus on environmental learning through the theme “Learn to Be Green, Together.” The CBE Literacy & Early Learning Team has prepared a variety of information and activities to help families engage in meaningful learning at home and at school. Reading together or doing learning activities at home is crucial to a child’s learning and development.
