A wireless network for internet access using student-owned personal electronic devices is provided at Killarney School.
At Killarney, students will be unable to access the LAWN network with their personal devices (mobile phones, iPads, etc.) unless there is an educational reason and joint teacher/parent/student agreement to include these devices into the learning environment. If you feel there is an educational reason for your child to be using their own personal mobile device during instructional time (school day), please contact your child’s teacher.
Be assured that the content filtering that is normally used to filter materials on the school’s internal network will also be applied to the open-access network.
Electronic devices are only to be used under the supervision of staff and in accordance with the school’s Digital Citizenship guidelines. Students are responsible for ensuring that their personal electronic devices are stored safely, labelled and treated with care. The school does not provide technical support for personal devices and is not responsible for personal devices being lost, stolen or damaged. It is recommended that personal devices be kept with the teacher during school hours.
Digital Citizenship at the CBE
Digital citizenship is about using technology and participating in digital environments. It is key to helping our students learn to use available technology responsibly in the classroom and beyond. Our school has a Digital Citizenship Plan that is updated annually, addressing how we work to build a community where we live and work together as digital citizens.
Visit the CBE website to learn more about how we support students to develop online safety skills and be good digital citizens.
Personal Mobile Devices
Student personal mobile devices are limited or restricted at all schools, unless required for health or medical needs, to support specialized learning needs, and for educational purposes. Learn more about our BYOD (bring your own device) rules.
Web Filtering & Social Media
Inappropriate or unsafe content may be blocked to provide a safe environment: some content is blocked for all users, and other content may be suitable for older students but not for younger ones. Student access to known social media platforms is blocked on school networks and school devices for all grade levels.
